Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs
Easter is my favorite holiday and I’m all about dying eggs. The best part is the experimentation that comes from using natural dye. This is my second year doing it and I’m hooked. This year, I used cabbage for blue eggs and turmeric spice for yellow eggs.
Cabbage Dye
Chop 4 cups of red cabbage and put it into the pot.
Add 4 cups of water and bring it to a boil.
Reduce heat to simmer and let sit for 30 minutes.
Strain out cabbage into the jar.
Add 2 tablespoons of vinegar.
Let dye cool.
Add eggs. I put 4 eggs into 1 big mason jar.
Dye eggs until you have the desired hue. I dyed mine for 4 hours and 30 minutes.
The original egg’s color is a huge factor. Use lighter eggs to accomplish a blue result. I used one brown egg for a charcoal color.
Turmeric Dye
Boil 2 cups of water until hot.
Pour water into a jar and add 1 tablespoon of turmeric spice (I would have added more but that’s all I had).
Add 2 tablespoons of vinegar.
Let dye cool.
Add eggs (I used light brown eggs). I put 4 eggs into 1 big mason jar.
Dye eggs until you have the desired hue. I dyed mine for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
That’s it! There are so many great tutorials online and I used these 2 as references for my own experiment. Thanks for checking out my DIY! :)
