Toddler Mealtime Tips

Benji’s mealtimes are hard. He has a short attention span, he’s a picky eater (most toddlers are), and he throws food and dishware. My patience isn’t always present but I’m learning how to work through these challenges one meal at a time. Here are a few things that are helping us:

Undivided Attention

It sounds simple and it is. The best thing I can do is be 100% present. I eat what he eats and I talk or sing with him throughout the meal.

Keep Serving Denied Foods

I tell myself “don’t give up!” every single day. It takes kiddos a while to warm up to new tastes and textures. So, I try to avoid making assumptions. Again, this sounds simple but I need to constantly remind myself. When offering new/denied foods, I limit it to 1 per meal.

Suction Dishware

The people at Avanchy are making my life a little easier. When he first started eating solids regularly, I purchased an Avanchy plate with suction. Hasn’t failed me yet! The people at Avanchy sent me a few products in exchange for photos.

I love that I can remove the suction ring to make these products usable for older kiddos.

I am not a pro on this topic and I have a lot to learn. Please let me know what helps in your home! Thank you Avanchy for sending me beautiful dishware to photograph and use. I love these products and the company’s mission to be sustainable. Read more about that on Avanchy’s site!
