Teaching Patterns with Noodle Necklaces
Teach your preschoolers about patterns by making noodle necklaces! I prepared the colored noodles ahead of time but you could include your kiddo in the whole process. Happy learning and making!
SUPPLIES
Acrylic or tempera paint
String
Noodles (I used priano bronze cut pasta for the big holes)
Plastic bags
Step One
Put some pasta in a bag pour the paint in. Close the bag and massage/shake it up. Check to see if the paint is covering all the pasta. Add more paint and shake again if needed. Redo this process with as many colors as you want!
Step Two
Remove the pasta from bags and let them dry. Takes a few hours depending on how much paint you used. I spread mine out on a tin-foil lined cookie sheet.
Step Three
Cut your string to the desired length and tie one noddle to the end You can remove the tied noodle when you are done.
Step Four
Create pattern sheets for your child to choose from. This is optional but it made the pattern concept easier for my child to understand.
Step Five
Encourage your child to create the pattern by stringing noodles onto the string. Help them if they get frustrated with the fine-motor skill. Tie the string ends together and you’re done!
