Koinobori-Inspired Fish Banners

ACS-0176.jpg

The Japanese word "Koinobori" is a combination of 2 words. “Koi” meaning carp and “nobori” meaning banner. In Japan, families hang fish banners/windsocks on a traditional holiday called “Children’s Day” (which takes place in early May). It’s a day when families celebrate the healthy growth and happiness of their kiddos. Since my husband has Japanese roots, he celebrated this as a child. Look how adorable he is with his sister in the photo below!

One of my creative outlets lately has been designing a toddler room for Benji and updating the nursery for baby girl. So, these fish banners were born to live in their rooms.

I used acrylic to paint the canvas fabric, attached them to the wooden rod with hot-glue, and glued them on the string for hanging.
